Subject: Linking TranGLC to PartTran for Periodic Post Dtl

I want to be able to pull a GL activity report that includes all GL transactions regardless of Source Module.  I've successfully been able to link the GLJrnDtl table to the TranGLC table.  I read a post that said you should go through the TranGLC table to the parttran, labordtl, and invcdtl tables.  Now I cannot link the TranGLC to the PartTran table.  I've tried linking the TranGLC fields Key1, Key2, Key3 to the PartTran fields PONum, POLine, and PORelNum fields, but it doesn't work.  Can someone help me link these fields so i can get a job number for the Periodic Posting Process GL Transactions?  Thanks

The trick to linking PartTran to TranGLC is that PartTran.TranNum joins to TranGLC.Key3 when the journal is 'IJ'

What fields did you use to link GLJrnDtl table to the TranGLC table? I couldnt find a common link. i wanted to analyze my WIP account to see what all transaction went into it and where it came from. The GLJrnDtl gives me the account number and Dr/Cr Amount. I need to know what Job they came from. Is the TranGLC the right table to link? or is there another table to link to GLJrnDtl to get that detail.

I have used this:
company,journalnum,journalline,key1,fiscalyear  on the TranGLC table
company, journalnum , journalline , groupid , fiscalyear  on the GLJrnDTL table
also Part tran is :
company, sysdate, systime ,trannum Parttran table
company, key1,key2,key3 TranGLC Table

Can you use both of these in the same baq?

When using a BAQ sometimes is helpful to use table aliases. So when using TranGLC use a table alias for it like TranGLC_PartTran and then link PartTran to that. So the same for TranGLC_Invoice and so on.  This keeps the table relations much easier to read and the logic simpler.

And also remember to set the item to being FIRST if you  know you are only getting one record e.g. there is only one invoice header so doing have "Each" on the Invched table.

In all the joins generally make sure they are OUTER joins so that results are returned even if the 'child' table not present.

I am very new to Vantage. Being an Accountant, I have used various other systems.

We are still using Vantage 8.03.409A Version.
I am also having problems is viewing this so called "Periodic Posting Process".

How do I see beyond this? - I want to see how, from where and what is include in that amount.

Is there anyway a non-technical guy can view it. Or is it that I have to hire some specialist to prepare some kind of report which will give me all the details included in Periodic Posting Process...

Please help.

The Periodic Posting Process is basically all the processes where the posting is handled by the system. Example with AP invoices you have to manually print and edit list, and then manually select to Post. With Inventory transactions such as an Adjustment you save the transaction, and the post happens in the background - this is the 'periodic post'.

Thank you for prompt response. Smile

My question, if I extend, is how can I view/print this posting so that I can understand thoroughly where or to which GL it is posted.

Look in the Trackers. For example to see the resultant GL postings for a posted AP invoice, open the AP Invoice Tracker, select your posted invoice, and then click on Header > GL Transactions and finally click the Retrieve button.

if the transaction is not yet posted, and it is a transaction that supports Edit lists, then you can run that from the transaction entry function (usually on the Actions menu) and it will show the GL summary by account at bottom the page, per transaction.
